Medical Officer

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites applications from suitably qualified persons to enlist in the JDF as a Professional Entry Officer to serve as a Medical Officer.

Candidate must be a Commonwealth citizen.

Professional & Educational Requirements

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or MD (Doctor of Medicine) degree from an accredited institution;
• Registration with the Medical Council if Jamaica;
• A minimum of five (5) years post qualification experience as a Medical Doctor;
• Experience in Primary Care would be an asset;
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Knowledge & Technical Skills

• Excellent history taking skills;
• Expertise in diagnosing and treating health conditions;
• Expertise in interpreting various diagnostic results;
• Expertise in applying various treatment modalities;
• Knowledge about established and evolving biomedical, clinical and cognate science and the application of knowledge to patient care.

Critical & Analytical Thinking Skills

• Strong ability to work independently;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work cohesively within a diverse community;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Strong attention to details.

Attitude

• Commitment to executing professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles and sensibility to a diverse client population;
• Must demonstrate the aptitude and desire to assimilate into military life;
• Willingness to work at other Military Outstation Medical Clinics.

Military Standards

In addition to the academic qualifications and competencies, candidates must be able to pass the assessment requirements for enlistment in the JDF.

Responsibilities

• Examine, diagnose and efficiently treat large numbers of clients;
• Provide preventative health advice to clients;
• Read and interpret diagnostic reports;
• Prepare large numbers of medical reports.
